What are the advantages of microinverters compared with other traditional inverters?

Release time:2024-08-27

1) Safety

In the traditional string inverter system, the PV modules are connected in series circuits. There is a DC high voltage of 600-1500V in the circuit, accompanied by a high temperature of 4000 °C, which can easily cause DC arcing, thus causing open flames, seriously threatening the safety of power stations and property.

The microinverter adopts a fully parallel circuit design and only has a DC low voltage of about 60V, which not only solves the problem that the DC high voltage of the traditional string system hinders rescue, but also completely avoids the fire risk caused by high-voltage DC arcing.

2) High efficiency

During the operation of PV power station, it is inevitable that there will be shadows such as leaves, dust, bird droppings, as well as fault factors such as module mismatch, which will cause a serious power reduction of individual modules.

In the traditional string inverter system, the power output of this string will be greatly reduced, due to the modules are connected in series with each other.

In the microinverter system, it will not affect the maximum power output of other PV modules except for the affected one, due to the modules are connected in parallel with each other.

At the same time, the microinverter can realize module-level maximum power point tracking (MPPT), and has a low start-up voltage, which prolongs the power generation time under low light conditions and increases the power generation of the system.

3) Long life

The life of traditional inverter is only 10 years, so it should be replaced at least once during the full life cycle of the 25-year power station.

The design life of microinverter is usually 25 years, and no need to be replaced during the full life cycle of the power station.

4) Reliability

When the system fails, the traditional string inverter needs to be repaired or replaced, and the whole system will be affected or even unable to operate.

Due to modular design, the failure of one module will not affect the whole microinverter system, which improves the reliability of the system.

At the same time, MOCOWINI microinverters have passed a number of reliability verification tests and accelerated aging simulations in our own and third-party laboratories.

5) Flexibility

The microinverter size is compact, easy for flexible configuration and system expansion.

And it will not occupy independent installation space.

6) Scale difference

Microinverter is more suitable for small distributed PV station, while traditional string inverter is more suitable for medium and large C&I PV station or ground PV power plant.
